Youth Training

Hermanus Yacht Club runs a programme for young novice sailors with little experience through to more advanced levels for kids with varying degrees of knowledge and experience. Some of our programs are also available to non-members of the club. Whatever your experience, we can adapt our programs to cater for your needs. Courses and programs vary in content, from practical on- the-water seamanship skills training to class room based theory. Whatever your skill level, the Club offers fun programs for ages seven and up.

We are fast becoming recognised for sailing and racing training and this all happens in an fun and safe environment. Conveniently located on the edge of the famous Hermanus Lagoon, all trainees and their families have access to ideal weekend camping facilities and plenty of space for car, boat and trailer parking.

Time on the water can lead to a life-long love of sailing and builds skills, self-reliance, and a sense of teamwork in every individual that enables them to think strategically preparing them for many of the life challenges that lie ahead in the outside world. http://hobiecatyouthclub.shutterfly.com/

Adult Training

The law requires anyone operating a vessel powered by 15hp or more to be in possession of at least a Category R (inland waters) Certificate of Competence. The final date for compliance was 1st March this year!

Hermanus Yacht Club has been offered an excellent deal for Skippers Ticket training and assessment at Category E level (one nautical mile from shore and 15 miles from an approved launch site), much better value than Category R. The qualification is for life and there is no annual renewal. It is a part of the whole; if you aspire to an offshore ticket, you start here anyway and add more learning.
